When it comes to massage, you want the deepest relaxation possible.
Achieving that goal within natural wellness is sometimes challenging when we have so much to do, in so little time! Massages are great for relaxation and circulation, but when you have pain lingering about, it can be hard to get comfortable enough to relax.
That is why there are other modalities of massage to be tuned into by you and your massage practitioner! One great example of a deeply healing massage technique is: Hot Stone Massage.
What Is Hot Stone Massage?
Hot Stone Massage is a therapy method with the use of hot lava stones with the intention of healing through massage. Hot stones are considered ancestral to Native American Indian healing practices and have been around for ages.
Lava Stones are heated within a natural hot bath under the skilled hands and supervision of a trained massage therapist, to between 130- and 140-degrees F. Training is essential to be certain not to burn a client or one self during the heating process of use.
The Hot Lava Stones are then applied through light to moderate pressure and gliding strokes utilizing the heat to penetrate deeply into the tissues to promote a deeper healing and relaxation. Hot Stone massage can be performed over all major muscle groups but the face and neck are generally avoided to prevent injury.

What Other Services Can Be Combined With Hot Stone Massage Treatment?
Not all massages are the same. You don’t have to get just one form of massage therapy! Most services can be combined with other treatments and modalities that your massage therapist will tailor specifically to you when you come up with your treatment plan.
Hot Stone Massages don’t always have to be with hot lava stones. Often times, when there are difficult to resolve muscular tensions, other forms of therapy are used as well. In example, contrast therapy, is a preferred method.
Instead of using only hot stones, the massage therapist can also freeze the lava stones and use cold stone therapy in contrast to the heat. This is an alternative healing method to manual manipulation of the muscles.
When the muscles move, the fascia moves. The fascia is a stringy, liquid web of clear connective tissue that covers every muscle within the entire body. If the muscles are stagnant, the fascia becomes stagnant and hardens over the muscles causing significant discomfort and limitations on range of motion. If you want to get your fascia melted and moving, stretching and manual manipulation is necessary!

Who Can Benefit From Hot Stone Massage?

- Anxiety or panic attacks
- Tight Muscles
- Athletic Activities
- 6-week post injury (to promote healing)
- Parents & Teachers who need to relax
- Anyone who wants to promote health
Not Sure If Massage Is Right For You?
Beware Of The Risks
Before booking a massage, always consider these few factors. Massage moves all of the fluids around in the tissues of your body. If you take medications, have drank alcohol or have toxins in your body, these can be moved around as the fluids push through your body and you may feel the effects of them all over again.
Always inform your massage therapist as honestly as possible because massage is a therapeutic practice that has many positive medical effects, as well as, contraindications and your safety is of utmost importance.
Your massage therapist needs to know things like:
- Are you taking any medications? Blood thinners?
- Do you have high blood pressure?
- Have you had cancer or do you have cancer?
- Have you ever had lymph nodes removed?
- Have you ever had surgery? Where?
- Do you have diabetes?
- Do you have a history of blood clots? (Very serious contraindication for massage)
- Are you suffering from herniated discs or arthritis?
- Do you have kidney disease?
You should always fill out a client consent from before your first appointment and your massage therapist will do a consultation to make sure massage therapy is the best course of action for your treatment, and likely, it will be!
